Goodreads Synopsis:
Meet Desmond Pucket--master of mayhem! Will his monster-y special effects pranks get him kicked out of middle school before the class trip to Crab Shell Pier? Or will Desmond be able to keep his monster magic in check?
 Review:
Desmond Pucket is a creative horror genius and he is only in sixth grade. Sadly not everyone around him appreciates his amazing-ness, especially not his school. Desmond has to stop pranking and scaring everyone in order to stay in school and more importantly - go on the 6th grade field trip.

This was not what I expected when I requested the book - it was in the graphic novels section so that is what I assumed it would be, but it more in the genre of Big Nate and Diary of a Whimpy Kid, in that they are books with pictures that go along with and as parts of the story. It was still very enjoyable though. Desmond is a funny kid who likes pranks and special effects and has fun with them - others around him...not so much. He is driving everyone crazy and telling the reader what is happening. Through his pictures - drawings, diagrams, notes he shows how he got himself into a huge mess at school and then how it resolved itself (eventually).

The images in the book were sketches of various pranks and the end of the book includes some how-tos for young readers. I thought they were interesting and very creative. I think that the book portrays school as a place to goof-off though and the only reason Desmond wants to be there is for the trip... I think that aspect could have been done better but it was a funny and quick read.
